Plus Size Formal Dresses: Wedding, Prom, Evening And Bridesmaid Dress

Let's face it: all women are shaped differently. Full figured, no-figured, slim, heavy, full chest, full hips, full thighs, full stomach, no two women are shaped alike. Formal dress occasions are frequently required, and formal dresses come in all shapes and sizes, from the petite to the plus size.

Plus size dresses, be they prom dresses or bridesmaid dresses, have one thing in common: they cannot be made like standard size dresses because they don't flatter the figure. Prom is the height of the high school scene. Everyone gets to dress up and look beautiful, even if its just for one night. Though it's true that the world is nicer to prettier (and slimmer) people, plus size dresses are not hard to find, and are usually very flattering to the individual woman's figure. The ideal plus size formal dress, be it for a wedding or the prom, slims the woman down without looking like that's what it is trying to do.

Some plus size prom dresses that do just that are the Oscar Worthy II dresses, which are selling for only $250. These black dresses are double-layered on the bottom, with both layers done in black. The top is fit, with pretty fake diamonds decorating the chest area and a tasteful blue or pink floral pattern lining the waist and accenting the overlain fabric, making the layer beneath both unobtrusively visible and attractive. There are other equally attractive plus size dresses that are very flattering. The trick is for each individual woman to find what is flattering to her plus size.

Obviously black and other dark colors are ideal for this process, and an evening dress or a prom dress can easily be dark colored. One perfect example of this is a black Maggy London chiffon dress, with a pretty green and gold belt to wrap around the waist, which is only $150. This knee-length dress is crinkles nicely, and the dark dress and light waistband help flatter any figure. It cuts off at knee length, so it's perfect for a guest at a wedding, as a bridesmaid dress, or an evening dress.

Unfortunately, not everyone wears dark colors well. For those who do not, a light-colored dress with a dark sash around the waist accents the weight and slims the figure. One plus size metallic dress, perfect for an evening dress or a prom dress, does just that. This is a Monif C style dress, and can be ordered online at edressme.com for only $220.

In fact, formal dress for most plus size clothing is more flattering if it is cut to flatter the individual's waist, whether it's high, right below the bust, or low, right above the hips. One brown low-cut waist-tie dress with a red belt accents both the waist and the chest for a nice fit. This dress is perfect to wear to a wedding, as long as it's not a bridesmaid dress. This dress is only $81, plus shipping and handling.

The problem for a bride planning a wedding is that it's likely that most of her bridesmaids will probably have different shapes, so finding a dress that flatters them all is next to impossible especially if some are plus size and some barely there.. Not that bridesmaid dresses are known for being well-liked, anyway. Even so, it's nice to find something that lots of people can wear. One option is to choose a color and have all the bridesmaids come up with their own dress-style. However, some dresses, like the dresses found on the website Therosedress.com, are made to fit and flatter people of any size.

Though some people dread formal dress shopping, it doesn't have to be a hassle, nor does it have to be something to dread. With a little bit of research, finding the perfect plus size bridesmaid dress, prom dress, or evening dress can be easy and fun. The important thing to remember is that it has to not only flatter the wearer, but be something she's comfortable in, and with no trouble at all, she'll be the belle of the ball.
